Homemade Lip Scrub

The chilly months are fast approaching us here in the UK, which means chapped lips are on the horison! As our lips get chapped, they often get covered in a layer of crusty, peeling, annoying dead skin. That usually ends up getting bitten or tugged off - and that doesn't do anyone any favours! One way in which you can help to avoid this is by making a simple lip exfoliator. In the past I have purchased my scrub and then I realised how simple it was to make, with things we all have hanging around in our house! It's important to remember not to use this all the time, as our lips are delicate, but if your suffering from chapped lips during the autumn and winter then this will definitely do the trick to help with all that dead skin peeling off, to reveal the soft skin underneath.

A tablespoon of white or brown sugar (white sugar is more abrasive, brown is softer and caster sugar is finer to use for sensitive sore lips)
A small container

After you've taken your sugar of choice, add a small amount of Vaseline (enough to make all the sugar stick together) and mix the sugar and Vaseline together. The sugar will act as an exfoliator whilst the Vaseline will help moisturise.

Once you have made the scrub, gently apply and scrub the mixture onto your lips in circular motions for the best results - this will lift the dead skin cells on the surface of your lips to reveal the soft, smooth layer underneath.

Once you have rubbed the scrub into your lips gently wipe away the scrub and then apply a lip balm and you're good to go!

In the winter I tend to do this a couple of times a week to help with chapped lips and to try and prevent the dry crusty skin, as smooth lips are critical for when you want to apply lipstick in the winter months!
